Parasaurolophus was a crested, duckbilled vegetarian that lived around 75 to 65 million years ago during the late Cretaceous period.
Like all Ornithischians Parasaurolophus had a toothless beak for stripping pine needles and other tough vegetation off branches, and lots of teeth in is jaws for chewing it.
Parasaurolophus had a large backwards pointing hollow crest on top of its head through which its nostrils went. The crest was probably used for display or for making sounds to attact a mate.
Parasaurolophus means "like crested lizard" because it had a long bony crest on top of its head. It was named by Dr. William A. Parks in 1922. Fossils have been found in Canada, North America and Mexico.
